Hossegor is a small town in southwest France that punches way above its weight in the surf world. A unique underwater canyon funnels Atlantic swell into powerful, hollow beach breaks that rival anything in the world.

The Break

La Gravière for the heaviest barrels, La Nord for more forgiving peaks, Capbreton harbour for beginners.

Saturday

Dawn patrol La Gravière if it is pumping. Afternoon explore the markets in Hossegor town. Evening in Biarritz — the grande plage at sunset is stunning.

Sunday

Morning session, then drive south to San Sebastian (45min) for the best pintxos of your life before flying home.

Surf La Nord in the morning. Afternoon: bike ride through the Landes pine forest.

Day trip to San Sebastian, Spain — 1hr drive, incredible food, great city beach break.

Day 5

Back to Hossegor. Sunset surf session at Capbreton. Dinner at Le Surfing restaurant.

Day 6

Explore Biarritz — surf the grande plage, visit the surf museum, explore the old port.

Day 7

Final session, drive to BIQ, fly home.

Local Knowledge

La Gravière is not for the faint-hearted — it is a serious beach break that closes out fast. Know your limits.

The Quiksilver Pro France is held here in October — the swell is usually firing during contest season.

Rent a van or camper — it is the classic Hossegor way and cheaper than hotels.

Croissants and coffee at a Hossegor boulangerie before your dawn patrol is non-negotiable.

San Sebastian is 1 hour south and has some of the best food in Europe — go.

Spring (March-April) is underrated — less crowds, still solid swell, mild temperatures.
