About

Furano sits in the heart of Hokkaido and receives some of the deepest, lightest powder snow in the world — separate from Niseko's tourist crowds. The resort is less internationally known, which means quieter slopes and more virgin terrain even after a storm. The Japanese skiing culture and local food scene are extraordinary.

The Mountain

Kitanomine zone — north-facing slopes that hold powder the longest after a storm.

Ideal Conditions

Siberian low pressure system sending moisture over the Sea of Japan, depositing 1-2m of dry powder in 48 hours.

Local Knowledge
01
Less crowded than Niseko — many of the ski tourists don't know about Furano yet.
02
Ryokan (traditional inn) experience with onsen after skiing is unmissable — book one in or near Furano.
03
The powder in central Hokkaido is exceptionally dry — like skiing on flour.
04
Japanese mountain food (curry rice, ramen) is excellent — the mountain restaurants are genuinely good.
05
Sapporo is 2 hours away and has great food, nightlife, and its own ski areas nearby.
