Bells Beach has hosted the Rip Curl Pro since 1962 — the longest-running professional surf contest in the world. The point break produces powerful, long, right-handers with a distinct booming sound from the cliffs. It's the spiritual home of Australian surfing and a pilgrimage destination for surfers worldwide.

Local Knowledge

Rip Curl Pro runs at Easter — the town is packed but the vibe is electric.

Winki Pop (next to Bells) is often less crowded and just as good on its day.

The cliffs give an incredible vantage point to watch waves — even non-surfers will be impressed.

Southern Victoria is cold — a 4/3 wetsuit minimum, booties in winter.

Jan Juc beachbreak nearby is great for a warm-up before hitting the point.
